It’s been a Spring to remember, one that will go in Girls on the Run San Diego history! Check out a few stats that made our 23rd season in San Diego County so remarkable:
We served 441 girls from 28 different teams throughout the county in 18 unique communities. Of our teams, we hosted 25 Girls on the Run (3rd-6th grade) and 3 Heart & Sole (6th-8th grade) teams. We also welcomed six new teams to our council this season!

Girls on the Run could not happen without our incredible coaches! This spring, 151 coaches volunteered their time to inspire girls. We welcomed 48 new coaches for their first season and welcomed back 103 returning coaches. For the first time in a while, we had three Junior Coaches (16-17 years old) lead teams!

Our Spring teams spent 10 weeks working through our fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Each team completed interactive 21 lessons and our council used 75 latex balloons, 200 activity cones, 700 washable markers, and 4,000 lap counters to help illustrate important character-development activites.
Donate Supplies: GOTRSD Program Supplies 2017-2018 Wish List
Our council strongly believes that every girl deserves this program and no one should be turned away due to the inability to pay. This spring, we provided financial aid to more than half of all registered participants and were able to provide full funding to 14 schools in low-income communities.
Donate: Girls on the Run San Diego 2017 Annual Giving
We celebrated the end of our Spring 2017 season with our Girls on the Run 5k (part of the largest 5k series in the U.S.)! This was our first season at Crown Point Park and introducing Monika’s Mile. Including the girls in our Spring program, 1,017 athletes joined us on 5k day. Inclement weather produced 0.65 inches of rain on 5k morning, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of anyone!
Save the date: The GOTRSD Fall 2017 5k will be on Sunday, December 3rd
We are so grateful to the 15 5k Volunteer Leads and 124 5k volunteers who helped us make the day special. Volunteers helped with everything, from directing our four waves of participants, distributing 1,017 mardi gras beads at the turnaround point, or passing out hundreds of bananas, cups of water, and snacks.
