Frequently Asked Questions

DO I HAVE TO KNOW A GOTR PARTICIPANT TO REGISTER FOR THE 5K?

No, everyone is welcome to participate as a Community Runner or Volunteer at the Girls on the Run 5K. Running Buddies (runners assigned to run/walk with a specific girl) must be female, 16 years or older, and able to pass a background check (we cover the expense).

I WANT TO BE A RUNNING BUDDY, BUT I'M NOT FAST-- IS THAT OKAY?

Yes! We welcome runners and walkers of all paces. When registering, be sure to include your pace and you will be matched appropriately. (P.S. it's totally okay for your girl to outrun you!)

CAN BOYS/MEN PARTICIPATE IN THE GIRLS ON THE RUN 5K?

Yes! Anyone who wants to run, walk, or skip to the finish line is welcome!

WHEN DO I GET MY BIB AND SHIRT?

Girls and coaches will receive their bibs and shirts prior to the 5K event. All pre-registered and day-of Running Buddies and Community Runners will pick their items up at Registration on 5K day. THERE IS NO ADVANCE PACKET PICK-UP!

MY DAUGHTER IS A GOTR PARTICIPANT-- DO I NEED TO REGISTER HER FOR THE 5K?

All current GOTR participants (and coaches) are AUTOMATICALLY registered for the 5K. Parents who wish to run with their daughters will need to register as Running Buddies.

WHAT TIME SHOULD WE ARRIVE ON SUNDAY?

- GOTR participants and coaches should meet at their team signs no later than 8:15AM to receive bibs. - Running Buddies should arrive by 7:45AM to pick up their bibs and meet their teams by 8:15AM. - All pre-registered runners should arrive by 8:15AM pick up their bibs/shirts and get to the starting line. - Day-of registrants should arrive by 8:00AM to register, pick up their bibs/shirts, and get to the starting line. - Spectators are encouraged to find their cheering spot along the 5K route before 9:00AM.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Please wear your provided GOTR shirt (girls will receive theirs in advance). Please plan for the weather and dress in layers. Tutus, capes, and any other flair is welcome and encouraged!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

We encourage you to bring a water bottle, a camera, and signs to show your support and enthusiasm. You may want to bring cash for GOTR merchandise or coffee, however, it is not necessary.

HOW WILL THE 5K START?

All teams are already organized into waves. At 8:40 AM, the DJ will start event announcements, lead the national anthem, and introduce our Executive Director. At 9:00 AM, waves will be released into the starting chute. Community Runners are welcome to run in any wave.

IS THERE A COURSE TIME LIMIT?

Nope! We keep the course open until every participant crosses the finish line. Typically, the course remains open until 10:30am (90 minutes after first wave).

CAN I BRING MY PET?

Sometimes our furry friends can be the best running buddies, but for the safety of everyone, please leave all pets at home.

CAN I RUN/WALK WITH A STROLLER?

Yes, athletes of all ages are welcome! We ask that participants with strollers start at the back of their wave.

WILL THERE BE FOOD OR DRINKS AVAILABLE?

Water and bananas will be available to all participants. Coffee will be available for purchase.

WHAT IF IT RAINS? WHAT IF IT'S TOO HOT?

This is an important day for our girls and the 5K will be held rain or shine. Should outside conditions become unsafe, we will notify participants through email and social media as soon as possible.

WHAT IF MY GIRL OR I GET HURT OR NEED HELP?

There will be a first aid station with an EMT at the starting line/finish line should any medical assistance be necessary. Volunteer Course and First Aid Marshals will also be spaced out along the course.

HOW WILL I FIND MY DAUGHTER AFTER THE 5K?

If you are not participating in the 5K, a Running Buddy (either a volunteer or coach) will be assigned to run/walk with your daughter. Please be sure to meet your daughter's Running Buddy before the 5K start and establish a meeting place for after the event. Lost girls are encouraged to head back to their team meeting spot or the DJ stage to reunite with their families.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?

This will be the first 5K for many participants. Please be positive, courteous, and patient on this incredible day. Volunteers will be available to help with questions on event morning. See you there!
